This tour is designed for travelers who not only want to explore the stunning archaeological sites of the Greek countryside but also to indulge in the world-renowned Greek wine of Nemea by visiting one of its prestigious wineries. For thousands of years, the region has produced the most flavorful and high-quality wine in Greece.

Corinth Canal,

The tour begins with a scenic drive along the coast, offering views of charming Greek seaside villages and the historic island of Salamis where the famous naval battle between the Athenians and Persians took place. Your first stop will be the Corinth Canal, which opened in 1892 and separates the Peloponnese peninsula from the rest of Greece, connecting the Saronic to the Corinthian Gulf. You will have the opportunity to walk across the canal on a pedestrian bridge and admire this engineering marvel.

Next, you will be driven to Ancient Corinth, the city which was dominated by the hill of Acrocorinth, the oldest and largest castle in southern Greece. The site, located at the foot of the hill, includes the Roman Agora of Corinth, the Temple of Apollo, and a small museum. In addition to its archaeological and historical significance, Ancient Corinth is also one of the most popular religious destinations in Greece. It was here that the Apostle Paul preached Christianity, was judged by the tribunal in the Agora, and established the best-organized Christian church of the time.

Next stop will be the Archaeological Site of Nemea, a complex of well-preserved and exhibited archaeological remains, emblematic due to Nemean Sports Games. Here you will admire the Temple of Nemeios Zeus, which was developed in the beginning of the 6th century BC with the institution of the Panhellenic Nemean Games in a region where human activity had been present since prehistoric times. 

You will then walk to the Ancient Stadium of Nemea, which hosted the Panhellenic games every two years and could accommodate 40.000 spectators. The domed stoa with the inscriptions on used to be the entrance point for the athletes as well as the starting point for the games.  

You will also visit the Archaeological Museum, which is located within the site and contains a collection of pictures of Nemea by travellers of the 18th and 20th centuries, coins of ancient visitors to Nemea, items related to the athletic activity on the site, prehistoric finds from sites in the district of Nemea, pottery and jewellery from the Mycenaean cemetery at Aidonia and the settlement of Aghia Irene, architectural parts from monuments at Nemea and other sites, and a collection of inscriptions.

After the visit to the site, you will head towards one of the many Nemean wineries.

Nemea. located in the northeast corner of the Peloponnese peninsula, is a fascinating wine tourism destination. Both the wineries and the undulating land, where Hercules performed two of his famous feats, are among the most impressive in Greece. Driving through the vineyards of the largest wine production zone in Greece, you will visit one of the best wineries, where you will be given a small tour showing you the plantation of grapevines, the storage barrels, and explaining the wine-making procedure that takes place until the bottling.

In the end, you will be offered some of their best varieties while enjoying a stunning view of the Nemean Valley.
